How to Volunteer

Here you can get more information about each Renn Fayre organization, check their volunteer schedules, and sign up to volunteer for a shift. Students, faculty, alumni, and staff are all welcome to enlist.

Karma Patrol

Karma Patrol is the volunteer organization dedicated to everyone's safety and health during Renn Fayre. To accomplish this, Karma Patrollers walk around campus, giving those who need it food (bagels) and water, and helping folks who have partied a bit too much to get help or a place to rest. Karma Patrol also runs the Karma Lounge, a place where people can rest and, in the case of those with a little too much something in their systems, be watched to make sure they don't have any problems. Karma Patrol works extensively with Whitebird, the event medical group that comes to campus for Renn Fayre.

See the Karma Patrol page for details.

Border Patrol

Border Patrol is the volunteer security group that operates during Renn Fayre with a primary goal of maintaining the privacy of the "private party" that is Renn Fayre; that is, we act to assure that the only people on-campus during the weekend are students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests. Border Patrol works extensively with Community Safety to accomplish this goal.

Enlist today at the Border Patrol page.

Pass Sales

We need volunteers to help sell passes for Renn Fayre to Alumni and guests of Reed community members. Everyone at Renn Fayre must have a pass. Volunteers will either stuff envelopes or collect money and distribute passes. Passes will cost $15 in the week leading up to Renn Fayre and $25 during Renn Fayre.

See the Pass Sales page to sign up.

Coffeehouse

Alumni Coffeehouse is a mellow place to hang out, listen to some tunes, eat some snacks, play some board games, watch some performers, or maybe make a weathergram or two.

The coffeehouse monitor will hang out, give out passes and instructions to other alumni volunteers, and keep an eye on the snacks and music equipment. It's an easy, low key way to help out that doesn't involve tramping around in the rain or dark. We're an equal opportunity: faculty, staff and students are also welcome to volunteer.

More information at the Coffeehouse page.

Kleen-up Krew

Renn Fayre is the greatest party ever, right? Yes it is, unless you're the Phys Plant worker who has to work overtime to clean up the campus in time for graduation. Back at Olde Reede, the school spent all kinds of money (in addition to the amount spent on Renn Fayre itself) cleaning up the campus. It's pretty absurd, if you think about it, that we run around throwing trash on the ground all weekend and then make someone else clean it up. Thus was born the novel idea that, hey, what if we cleaned up after ourselves? Cleaning up the campus so as to not create more work for Phys Plant is the honor principle in action. The weekend shifts allow for damage control so that the mess doesn't get too out of hand, the Monday shifts are when the serious cleaning goes down.

All the messy details are at the Kleen-up Krew page.

Materials Salvage

Materials Salvage Crew is the volunteer crew responsible for the recovery of building materials used in the construction of Renn Fayre structures. MSC will have three shifts during which volunteers will salvage anything of use that has completed its Renn Fayre purpose. Volunteers will be equipped with nail rippers, screw guns, saws, and other fun tools necessary for the shredding of structures.

Feast

The feast is the cherished gluttony of Renn Fayre. Midday on Saturday there is a campus wide feast held in the quad for reedies to stuff their faces silly with yummy non-commons food. This event fosters a great sense of community as we all wait in line (except those brave enough to pict) for the meal of the weekend. The feast also serves the practical purpose of putting some food in our bellies before the festivities of Saturday night hit campus like a run away freight train. The feast is funded, and run, by students. The money to finance such a decadent event comes from boardpoint donations throughout the year and student body funds. And all the cooking, preparation, and clean up falls on student shoulders as well (though we are graciously allowed to use the kitchens in commons), which is where volunteers become so very important.

See the Feast page for details.
